Marking bitforms gallery's fifteenth anniversary season, There's No Distance is Casey Reas's fourth solo show at the gallery. The title references the performativity of software-based works, where composition is ever-changing. As Reas states: "My software work is more like a performance; there's no distance between you and the image being made." The Still Life series deconstructs Platonic solids as simulated compositions, flattening dimensional space so multiple planes occupy the visual field simultaneously. The works are instructions-based and systems-driven, in that information is a "viable esthetic consideration." Featured pieces include Path (Software 2) (2001/2014) and Yes No (2012). Reception: Saturday, September 10, 4–7 PM.
