A two-person exhibition featuring Golan Levin and Casey Reas, exploring the intersection of software, code, and visual art. Casey Reas presented works from his Tissue series — generative software drawings inspired by neuroanatomist Valentino Braitenberg's Vehicles, where simple layers of code combine to create deceptively complicated behavior through simulated organisms with software sensors and actuators. Golan Levin contributed interactive audiovisual installations that allow gestural creation and real-time manipulation of abstract animation and synthetic sound. The Art of Code was among the earliest exhibitions at bitforms gallery, which opened in November 2001 as one of New York's first galleries dedicated to new media and technology-based art.
