bitforms gallery is pleased to announce its first solo exhibition by the London-based artist Quayola. On view will be two video installations, Strata #4 and Topologies, the second of which is a New York premiere. Quayola explores hybrid spaces of animated painting and sculpture through computational methods, examining light, form, shape and color. The Topologies installation transforms paintings from the Museo del Prado — Velázquez's Las Meninas and Tiepolo's The Immaculate Conception — into animated movement using triangulation techniques. Strata #4, originally commissioned as multi-channel immersive video, analyzes altarpieces by Van Dyck and Rubens displayed on a 50" screen. Also on view is a selection of drawings related to Quayola's geometric interpretations of classical painting.
