bitforms gallery presents Storms, a suite of new video works by Quayola exploring the tradition of landscape painting through advanced computational technologies. The exhibition focuses on the pictorial substance of plein air studies, with data sourced from ultra-high-definition footage of stormy seas captured in Cornwall, England. The works' action, color, and choreography emerge from algorithmic processes that transform this raw footage into dynamic digital compositions. Quayola uses digital vectors fueled by algorithms to provoke the sea — transforming stillness into sudden waves, generating unfinished artworks that paint themselves over time. The series Storm #01 through Storm #07 each presents a unique algorithmic interpretation of the captured seascapes, blurring the boundary between observation and computation, nature and artifice.
