Michael Joaquin Grey pioneered new media art practices beginning in 1990, expanding from galleries into sculpture, biotechnology, IT, product design, and education. His work includes inventing Zoob, "a modeling system and toy that emulates dynamic and living systems." Recent explorations focus on computational cinema and choreography combining sound, motion, and video elements. Influenced by Charles and Ray Eames' The Powers of Ten, Grey explores microcosmic and macrocosmic scales as a spatial philosopher, using scientific language to examine complex spatial behavior through "first principles" experimentation. Grey holds a BS in Genetics from UC Berkeley and an MFA from Yale.
