bitforms gallery presents Sol, Daniel Rozin's eighth solo exhibition. This body of work probes the relationship between the function of natural and mechanical structures through custom software and organic materials that mimic and interact with the viewer's body in space. Fabric Mirror (2019) features over 400 individual motors that respond to observers, with shimmering textiles draped over a mechanical frame. A 3D camera and programmed electronics direct the manipulation of fabric, creating a silhouette of the viewer mediated by hard and soft materials. Cracked Mud (2019) is a large-scale floor installation with ceramic fragments. Sensors transmit the observer's gestures into gradual ripples across the ceramic landscape, addressing climate-related environmental changes through an interactive and generative experience. Sunset Mirror (2019) is a screen-based software mirror that displays a time-lapse sunset sequence. The viewer's proximity controls the sunset, extending Rozin's celebrated Mechanical Mirrors series into new territory.
