bitforms gallery presents Shellshock, Addie Wagenknecht's inaugural U.S. solo exhibition. An American artist based in Austria, Wagenknecht builds installations, interventions, paintings and sculpture that investigate the cultural connection between technology and social interaction. In Shellshock, Wagenknecht establishes a critical space between lived experience and sculpture within the context of post-Snowden information anxieties. Wagenknecht holds formal training in computer science and cofounded NORTD Labs, advancing the open-source hardware movement. The exhibition features painting and sculpture, including the Black Hawk mechanically-assisted action painting series (initiated in 2007 using drone aircraft) and Data and Dragons sculptures that intercept and log anonymous live data captured from surrounding WiFi signals. Notable works include Cloud Farming (ceiling-suspended sculpture), XXXX.XXX (multi-panel wall-mounted sculpture), -r-xr-xr-x (CCTV cameras adorned with gold leaf), a rhinestone-encrusted remote-controlled toy tank, and All The Beautiful Things (modified concrete eagle sculpture).
