bitforms gallery presents its first solo exhibition with Beryl Korot, featuring her landmark video installation "Text and Commentary" (1977) alongside two recent works: "Florence" (2008) and "Yellow Water Taxi" (2003). Korot is recognized as a pioneer of video art and multiple-channel work since the early 1970s, exploring human history's physical marks and data structures through compositions combining text, weaving, and video. "Text and Commentary" — a five-channel work with woven notation — is one of the first multi-channel video installations in art history, establishing an entirely new compositional framework linking video to weaving. "Florence" is organized by a grid of black and white squares that recalls a weaving draft, while "Yellow Water Taxi" uses woven grid overlays referencing Korot's handmade canvas. Korot is a Guggenheim Fellow with work in major collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and MoMA. She co-founded Radical Software (1970–74) and collaborated with Steve Reich on the video operas The Cave and Three Tales.
