bitforms gallery is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition by artist Golan Levin. Known for his work in audiovisual performance and interactive software art, Levin presents five intimate new works at bitforms gallery. Levin's new works signal a shift in his interests toward spectatorship and the human gaze as a means of activating visual art experiences. These five works are designed as systems of feedback that respond to viewers' movements and presence. Featured works include Eyecode, a typographic tapestry of recursive observation that records and replays brief video clips articulated by blink duration; Opto-isolator, a solitary mechatronic blinking eye at human scale with responsive behaviors including direct eye contact and synchronized blinking; Interstitial Fragment Processor, a synaesthetic abstraction of gravity within negative spaces with animated objects responding to viewer shadows; Reface (Portrait Sequencer), a video mash-up based on the Exquisite Corpse, combining visitor facial features; and Ghost Pole Propagator, which captures and replays the skeletons of passersby, creating a layered tapestry reflecting locale history. The exhibition concludes with an artist's talk at the gallery on January 12, 2008 at 4:00 PM.
