bitforms gallery is pleased to announce Peter Vogel's first New York solo exhibition in over 20 years. The show features rare musical improvisations performed on Rhythm of Shadow, a thirteen-foot sonic sculpture. A closing day event includes performances by MEI-BE Whatever dance company. Peter Vogel (b. 1937, Germany) pioneered interactive electronic sculpture, combining his training in physics with dance, musical composition, and visual art since the late 1960s. The exhibition presents new work spanning his production from the early 1970s onward. Vogel's sculptures are constructed from red, green, and blue light-emitting diodes, wire, photo cells, bare speakers, resistors, and capacitors. Works utilize photocells and microphones that react to spectators, creating an experience of seeing and hearing unique improvisations triggered by light and shadow.
