An exhibition investigating the relationship between character and narration. Projects employ varied media, hardware, and collaborative production structures to create narrative contexts—a production strategy common in mass media, literature, and technology. Marina Zurkow presents "Braingirl," a Flash animation continuous loop projection exploring adolescent self-perception and externalized emotions through iconic imagery and simple narratives symbolizing the intersection of self, family, and society. Zurkow and Julian Bleecker collaborate on "pussy Weevil," a Flash animation with custom code and Java, featuring a screen-based 2D animated character with rule-based reactive behaviors responding to viewer position, displayed on a 17" embedded screen. Claudia Hart and Larry Bercow present "e meets the photography of larry Bercow," a 3D animation composited into photographs. The character "e" deforms to match clothing and environment, garbed in cutting-edge fashion designer pieces, exploring narrative strategies linking fashion, advertising, and consumer self-identification.
