bitforms gallery presents Artificiata II, Manfred Mohr's fifth solo exhibition at the gallery, featuring paintings, drawings, wall reliefs, and films created using computers and algorithms since 1968. The exhibition combines new Artificiata II series works with historic works, some of which have never been exhibited. A leader in software-based and generative art, Mohr's practice spans nearly five decades, originating from his study of Max Bense's information aesthetics and collaboration with composer Pierre Barbaud. The exhibition traces the evolution of his algorithmic practice from early plotter ink drawings (1967–1970) through the landmark Cubic Limit film (1973–74, 16mm), middle-period works exploring n-dimensional hypercubes (1984–1996), and the recent P1611, P1650, and P1682 series (2012–2014), culminating in the new Artificiata II / P2200 and P2202 series (2014–2015). The exhibition was accompanied by a visual book, Artificiata II, published by OEI Editör, Stockholm (2014).
